How Selling Works

Who Can Sell on Crafts.ly

Crafts.ly is a marketplace for handmade goods. If you create original work by hand, whether that's ceramics, jewelry, textiles, woodwork, art, or any other craft, you're welcome to sell here. You can also sell handmade goods made by other artists, as long as you have their authorization to do so.

Selling is currently available to sellers based in the United States only. We're focused on handmade items, not mass-produced or resold goods. Everything you list should be handmade by you or by an artist who has authorized you to sell on their behalf.

Becoming a Seller

Any Crafts.ly account can become a seller. From your profile, tap "Start Selling" to begin the setup process. You'll need to:

  1. Connect a Stripe account. This is how you'll get paid. Stripe handles all payment processing and deposits your earnings directly to your bank account. If you don't have a Stripe account, you can create one during setup.

  2. Set up your shipping policy. Choose whether to charge a flat shipping rate per order, per item, or offer free shipping. You can also set your return policy.

  3. Create your first listing. Add photos, a title, description, price, and quantity available.

Once your Stripe account is connected and verified, you're ready to start selling.

Listing Products

Each product listing includes:

  • Photos — Add up to 10 images. The first image is your main photo and appears in the feed.
  • Title and description — Describe what you're selling. Include materials, dimensions, and any details buyers should know.
  • Price — Set your price. This is the amount your earnings are based on. Buyers will see a slightly higher price at checkout due to the platform's buyer service fee.
  • Quantity — How many you have available. When quantity reaches zero, the listing shows as sold out.
  • Shipping — Your shipping rate for this product, or use your default shipping policy.
  • Return policy — Whether you accept returns for this item.

You can edit or deactivate listings at any time from your profile.

Fees

Crafts.ly charges a 5% seller fee on each sale. This fee is calculated on your listed price plus any shipping you charge, and is deducted from your earnings when a buyer completes a purchase.

A payment processing fee (2.9% of your sale amount + $0.30 per transaction) is also deducted to cover Stripe's processing costs on your portion of the sale.

To keep seller fees low, Crafts.ly adds a 10% service fee to the buyer's total. This means more of your sale price stays with you. The buyer sees the final price including this fee at checkout.

For example, if you list an item for $50 with free shipping:

  • The buyer pays $55 (your price + 10% buyer service fee) plus applicable tax
  • Crafts.ly seller fee: $2.50 (5% of your price)
  • Payment processing fee: $1.75 (2.9% of your price + $0.30)
  • Your earnings: $45.75

There are no listing fees, monthly fees, or subscription costs. You only pay when you make a sale.

Getting Paid

Your earnings become available 10 days after you ship an order. This waiting period helps ensure the buyer receives their item and allows time to resolve any issues.

Once your balance is available, you can initiate a payout from your Seller Dashboard. Payouts are deposited to your connected bank account through Stripe, typically within 2-3 business days.

You can view your available balance, pending earnings, and payout history in your Seller Dashboard.

Sharing Your Work

Crafts.ly combines social features with commerce. When you list a product, you can also create posts to share your work, your process, or the story behind what you make. Posts appear in your followers' feeds and help you build an audience.

Buyers can follow you, like your posts, and leave comments. Building a presence on the platform helps more people discover your work.

Managing Orders

When someone buys from you, you'll receive a notification and the order will appear in your Seller Dashboard. From there you can:

  • View order details including the buyer's shipping address
  • Mark the order as shipped and add tracking information
  • Cancel the order if needed
  • Message the buyer if you have questions

Shipping Orders

To ship an order:

  1. Prepare and package the item.
  2. Ship it using the carrier and method of your choice.
  3. In your Seller Dashboard, tap the order and select "Mark as Shipped."
  4. Enter the tracking carrier and tracking number if available.

Once you mark an order as shipped, the buyer is notified and your earnings begin their 10-day holding period before becoming available for payout.

Canceling Orders

You can cancel an order at any time before you mark it as shipped. Once an order is marked as shipped, it cannot be cancelled through the platform.

When you cancel an order, the buyer is refunded automatically and both you and the buyer receive a notification.

If an issue comes up after an order has shipped, reach out to the buyer directly through the messaging feature to work out a resolution.

Crafts.ly reserves the right to cancel and refund orders that are not shipped in a timely manner.

Shipping Tips

  • Ship promptly. Fast shipping leads to better reviews and repeat buyers.
  • Add tracking when possible. Buyers appreciate being able to follow their package, and it protects you in case of delivery disputes.
  • Package with care. Handmade items deserve thoughtful packaging. Secure your items well to prevent damage during transit.
  • Communicate delays. If something comes up and you can't ship on time, message the buyer to let them know. Most buyers are understanding when you keep them informed.
